History of Malaysia Debate Open
The idea of having such a tournament came up when bunch of bored debaters from Voices Melaka had nothing else to talk about in the bus while coming back home from a debate tourney in 2008. With only 2 months left from the proposed date, these guys started planning for the tournament and this is how it happened.....
Malaysia Debate Open
Vision :
To establish the Malaysia Debate Open as the premiere debating tournament in Malaysia.
Objectives :
- To provide young Malaysians an avenue for the active synthesis of different cultures and ideas through participative debate.
- To create a sustainable event where young talented, critical thinkers can be identified and groomed.
- To be a springboard for efforts to establish Malaysia as a regional debate center.
- To provide an opportunity for interaction and cross-cultural exchange in an inter-collegiate setting.
- To promote better understanding both in debating as a demanding extra-curricular to educate the youth in public-speaking, citizenship, critical thinking and English proficiency.
2nd Malaysia Debate Open Details
- Date : 5th - 8th March 2010 ( Friday - Monday )
- Venue : Multimedia University, Melaka
- Format : Asian Parliamentary
- Cap : 80 teams
- Institution Cap : 3 teams ( N = 1 )
- Registration Fees : RM 170 per debater/adjudicator, RM 350 per observers
